The point made above is that there are bigger problems in the world than GTA4, so I will keep this short.
GTA 4’s specific target audience is young kids, especially those who may eventually access it despite age limitations on selling Mature rated games. Addressing our misgivings of the series’ narrative involves finding or making games with alternative messages that will appeal to young men. I’m not too distant from the demographic, so I am able to find games that have offered this style of narrative in the past. I will also try to speculate on future releases.
Relevant Games:
- Deus Ex.
Reinstall it before you read on. Deus Ex is probably one of the most influential games in the whole wide world. Any time I come across a narrative or political issue anywhere, I always refer to Deus Ex’s rich and contemporary plot.
The game options are very diverse, Every time I play that game, I play with a different niche(Most often Ghost in the Shell archetypes). I always try to solve problems without killing.
The ending of the game doesn’t give you an easy answer to the problems of the world. All sides who want to use you for their goals have eerily valid points.
Nearly every action is accounted accounted for by the game and subsequent plot events. That’s what I call genius. No matter where you are, you are constanly intimidated by rivals and enemies such as Anna, Icarus, Gunther, Walton, and raiding squads from around the corner.
- Fallout
- Bioshock
This game had so many great moments and concepts. A game that is willing to tackle hyper-individualist philosophy and scientific ethics is a big plus.
- Mirror’s Edge
I’m drawn to this upcoming game due to the Dark Angel like cyberpunk aesthetic and the innovative daylight palette given the futuristic cities. I hope this game turns out well.
