I maintain that talking about race and gender is impossible in current terms within the gaming community. The discussion seems to offer nothing but inane “color-blind” and “gender-blind” explanations about “moving on” that do nothing to address collective privilege that remains in place. When kids use “double-standard” and “PC” to deride such criticisms, they are simply throwing cliches around. Claiming irony does not explain it away either.
This doesn’t make the contributors racist or misogynist, but it means that they are uncreative. Isn’t creativity a virtue in the gaming community?
