Nintendo has historically modeled themselves as more accessible than the other major companies. Nintendo’s conventions have seemed more entertaining compared to the others. Lets take a look at the highlights from the Nintendo Conference.
- Zelda: Skyward Sword
Shigieru Miyamoto appeared once again this year to demonstrate different features of the fantasy action and puzzle game, including a sword-and-shield interface, whips, archery, and a flying scout beetle. There were some technical issues during the demonstration, which was explained as wireless interference.
To be honest, I’ve never seen the appeal of the Zelda games. I played the series a long time ago, and I remember cutting grass and shooting bugs a lot of the time.
- Mario Sports Mix
Mario and friends get into new sports such as hockey, basketball and volleyball. This is bound to be a successful, accessible party game in the Nintendo tradition.
- Just Dance 2
Due to the limitations of the Wiimote, this dancing game might not get the full range of movement that the Move or Kinect does. The only style of dance this is suited for is upper-body dance style, such as Para-Para.
- Goldeneye for the Wii
The classic game for the Nintendo 64 is memorable to any gamer that was around in the late 90s. Seeing an update would be interesting as long as they don’t fall for the tropes of the Call of Duty series.
- Epic Mickey
Warren Spector, of Deus Ex fame , appears on his years-long project that includes Disney properties. The paint system of the game inserts the open-ended, decisio- based gaming that is Spector’s hallmark in gaming.
- Kirby’s Epic Yarn
What’s the deal with inserting Epic in these new titles?
- Metroid: Other M
- Donkey Kong Country Returns
The predecessors of this game on the SNES were likely the most played in our household. seeing a new one brings back memories of the train cart and barrel puzzles.
- Nintendo 3DS
The stereo cameras capable of taking 3d pictures look interesting. That is functions without cumbersome glasses is also interesting. On the topic of 3D has any manufacturer accounted for consumers who want to wear 3D glasses but wear prescription glasses? Are there any prescription 3D glasses 3D glasses that are worn over perscription glasses?
- Kid Icarus: Uprising
This is an interesting take on the obscure property that is often mocked for its portrayal in the Captain N cartoons.
