I might not be able to catch everything immediately like last year because I have class and work this week.
Microsoft Conference Impressions: Xbox 360 is the system I imagine myself owning. My computer is pretty old, so I may not be able to experience most of the PC games covered like the PC Gears of War. If I ever have the time and money, it’s a choice between upgrading my comp and getting a 360.
Highlights:
- COD4 gameplay: I was a little suspicious of Infinity Ward using S.T.A.L.K.E.R’s Pripyat setting., but now that I see game play in the setting, I’m starting to like it. The details are really nice. Hiding around in a ghille suit being lectured by a dirty scot should be fun.
- Assassin’s Creed: I like the setting. I hope the game turns out good.
- Gears of War PC: It’s cool that PC is getting more content, it’s just a matter of computer requirements.
Nintendo Conference Impressions: I liked how they started the conference by featuring the applications their users have come up with (like DjWiij). Wii is a strong consideration for me.
Highlights:
- Peripherals: Although I like the idea behind the new peripherals like the Wii Wheel and Zapper, I can imagine these getting lost or creating a clutter in the room.
- Online Mario Kart: This is a great idea, an online multiplayer Mario Kart.
Sony Conference Impressions: Last year’s Sony conference was really disappointing. My favorite this time last year was Metal Gear Solid 4, but the more I saw of it before today, the less I wanted to play. Sony gets a couple of sympathy points for being a shadow of their former glory. I hope they can recover from past year’s blunders, but there is not much to tempt me into buying a PS3.
Highlights:
- New MGS4 Trailer: It’s cool that they downplayed those insipidly designed Metal Gears for other characters. The fight between Raiden and Vamp was mesmerizing. If I don’t have to fight those Bovine Gears often, then I might like this again.
- LitteBigWorld: This sounds like a cool idea, but the game seems too freeform. Garry’s Mod did the same thing, but eventually the amusement of playing with physics passed. What would help this game is a mission or challenge mode to put some drive and momentum to game play.
- Chewbacca: That’s right, Chewbacca!
- Echo Chrome: I have a soft spot for minimalist games. Puzzling around with M.C Escher perspectives sounds fun.
- Digital Delivery: It’s cool to see digital delivery of retail games. The digital delivery systems on the other two consoles only serve lightweight pickup games.
PC Games I’m looking for:
- Bioshock
World in ConflictTrying the FilePlanet Beta. I get kicked off before my units even deploy. It’s crazy!- Starcraft 2
- Fallout 3
- Spore
- Mercenaries 2
- Age Of Empires3: Asian Dynasties
